Bayer Practicing Preventative Anti-Counterfeiting PDF Print E-mail

After writing Why Preventative Anti-Counterfeiting is Important we were pleased to see SecuringPharma report that Bayer HeathCare is doing just that. 

 

The SecuringPharma story Bayer speaks out on Brand Protection Strategy, describes Bayer's Healthcare's strategy for Levitra, Bayer's new erectile dysfunction drug. Bayer claims that the new product has over 120 anti-counterfeiting features! 

 

Bayer is a perfect example of a brand practicing many of the best practices we often preach in this blog:

  • Don't wait until you have a problem to start an anti-counterfeiting program.
  • Use a combination of overt and covert anti-counterfeiting technologies.
  • Combine anti-counterfeiting technologies. The more protections you have, the stronger your security will be. There is no one "bull's eye" for product security. 
  • Admitting you have a counterfeiting problem.  Trying to cover it up can often make things worse. In this case Bayer is anticipating a problem which exists for their competitors. 

 

We are also pleased to see Bayer educating the public about counterfeiting with its website section Beware of Counterfeits.  Consumers can be a very powerful force in a company's anti-counterfeiting strategy but most companies prefer to pretend the problem does not exist (ignoring best practice #4). Brands can be doing a lot more to educate the public and we hope more brands follow Bayer's lead. 

 

Good job Bayer! Keep it up!
