Increase of Counterfeit Wine in the Supply Chain PDF Print E-mail

Earlier this week we wrote about the questionable anti-counterfeiting techniques used by law enforcement officials to identify counterfeit wine. The main anti-counterfeiting strategy used by law enforcement officials in a recent BBC report was to look for typos on spirit bottles.


It seems there is now an incident with counterfeit wine in the UK. The only visible distinction between the fake wine and the real wine is…you guessed it – a typo - A typo that most customers seem not notice.

 
This is just one of several recent incidents involving counterfeit wine in the UK. We hope wine and spirit companies will be more motivated to invest in anti-counterfeiting technologies after this incident.
