With the exception of documents that use holograms, most security documents that are protected with taggant technology have the taggants printed directly into the document. This means we at InkSure have worked with many security printers and have seen the good and the bad side of printing and security document production.

In January 2011 we released CarSure, a currency-level reader that can authenticate documents through glass. CarSure uses InkSure's signature taggant technology, technology that has been protecting high-value documents for over a decade.

We market this reader to suppliers of government documents as a way to improve motor vehicle law enforcement. By giving law enforcement officials the ability to authenticate documents through glass, it is easier to find counterfeit vehicle registration stickers, safety inspection certificates and other documents often attached to the inside of car windows.

We have been told over and over again that governments do not have money for such anti-counterfeiting programs right now. - Several governments in North America and Europe are near-bankruptcy and have no cash to spend on new programs. However we think CarSure or technology like it is needed very badly and could actually help governments generate revenue.

Remember the beginning of this century around the year 2000? Computers had recently become commonplace and everyone from toddlers to grandmothers started getting email addresses.

It was around that time that panicked predictions for the end of paper started developing. People were worried that kids would never write hand-written notes and that books would be replaced by mindless computer games.

Well, there is one kind of paper that is here to stay, at least for a while – security documents. Google searches have yielded information about jobs in the security printing industry as well as tenders for security documents. It looks like tax stamps, paper passports and banknotes are here to stay.

…well, maybe just the registration tag.

InkSure just launched CarSure, a new forensic-level reader that can read taggants and authenticate documents through glass.

So why is this a big deal? Many governments require important documents to be affixed to the inside of a car windshield (windscreen). While most citizens are happy to take their car in for inspection and pay other necessary fees, there are always some that won't or don't want to.  The ones that don't fulfill their obligations can create look-alike documents and put those inside the car.
